WIU Advances to Sweet 16 of NCAA Fan Contest

MACOMB, IL -- Thanks to the unwavering support of Western Illinois University fans, the Leathernecks have advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA 6th Fan Competition.

With the top-16 finish, WIU has earned $10,000 toward the University's general scholarship fund. The winner of the overall competition will win $100,000, which will go to the University's general scholarship fund.

After finishing the first round in sixth place, Western is now paired up against New Mexico. The school with the most votes by Feb. 23 will advance to the Elite 8. Fans are encouraged to continue voting via Facebook, Twitter (by using #6thFan #WILL) and ncaa.com/6thFan.

Each round of voting will last one week, leading up to the announcement of the two finalists on March 10, with the overall winner announced March 16. In addition, those who register to vote on ncaa.com have the chance to win either an iPad Air (one person per round) or an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Men's Final Four in Indianapolis.
