MACOMB, IL – Jane Carlson, director of Tri-States Audio Information Services at Western Illinois University, has been named a board member of the International Association of Audio Information Services (IAAIS) Board of Directors.

IAAIS is a trade association that helps set best practices for the industry.

"Serving on the IAAIS Board of Directors will ensure our service, and others in Illinois, stay on the forefront of important conversations about changing technologies, funding issues and standards of good practice that affect reading services for the blind and visually impaired all over the world," Carlson said.

Carlson has been the AIS director since 2011. Prior to that, she worked in book publishing, journalism and higher education fundraising. She currently serves as secretary of the Illinois Radio Information Services (IRIS) and will serve as the organization's vice president for the next two years.

Tri-States Public Radio Manager Jonathan Ahl said Carlson's appointment reflects well on the services the organization provides local residents.

"This appointment speaks both to Jane's professional acumen as well as Tri-States Audio Information Services' long history of excellent service to people who are blind, visually impaired, learning disabled or physically disabled in our area," he said.

AIS, which is a service of Tri States Public Radio and the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC), is located on the WIU campus and helps broadcast printed materials for tri-states residents who are blind, visually impaired, learning disabled or physically disabled. Services include in-depth readings of national, regional and local news and feature programming related to disabilities.
