WIU Offering Chance to Study in China

MACOMB, IL – A trip to China and a chance to study communication procedures there is being offered to Western Illinois University students in Spring 2014.

As part of the Journalism 379 and Special Topics in Broadcasting 480 classes, students will have a chance to visit prominent national and local news media outlets, public relations agencies, journalism schools, and interact face to face with Chinese journalists, journalism students and faculty and mass communication practitioners.

The trip is tentatively scheduled from May 24 – June 9, 2014.

Other places of interest currently on the schedule include trips to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, meetings with editors and reporters at China Central Television and a visit to the newsroom of the People's Daily. Students will also have the chance to meet journalism students and professors from Peking/Tsinghua University.

An informational meeting about the trip will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Nov. 1 in Sallee Hall, room 304. The meetings will each last about one hour.
