MACOMB, IL – University of Texas Professor Emeritus of History Lewis L. Gould will deliver the lecture, "Watergate Remembered: Representative Thomas Railsback and the Perspective from Western Illinois," Monday, Oct. 14 at Western Illinois University.

The lecture, which begins at 4 p.m. in Morgan Hall, room 101B, is open free to the public and is based on the Railsback Papers, which are held in the WIU Archives and Special Collections.

Gould will speak about the connection between local politics and the Watergate scandal.

Railsback, who represented the legislative district encompassing Macomb for 16 years, was a member of the House Judiciary Committee conducting the 1974 impeachment inquiry. He was one of the "fragile coalition," a group of four Republicans and three conservative Democrats, who drafted two of the Articles of Impeachment against Richard Nixon adopted by the House and leading to the President's resignation.
