MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's annual Big Pink Volleyball (BPV) breast cancer awareness fundraiser tournament is set to take place Monday-Thursday, Sept. 23-26 on the WIU-Macomb campus.

The 13th annual BPV tourney will be held from 4-11 p.m. (Sept. 23-26) at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center and is sponsored by Thompson Hall (University Housing and Dining Services) and Campus Recreation.

Early-bird registration and entry fee ($5 per person) for the single-elimination volleyball tournament is due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 in the Campus Recreation Office. All entries due by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 (also to the Campus Recreation Office).

A 2013 BPV Kickoff event is slated to start at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Spencer Student Recreation Center. During the kickoff event, BPV teams can practice; attendees can take part in making a "human ribbon"; and the University Union Board will provide refreshments.

According to Campus Recreation Associate Director Judy Yeast, the 2012 BPV tourney raised $9,781.64, and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and McDonough District Hospital each received checks for $4,890.82 last year.

"This year, if we raise at least $6,835.88, we will have raised $100,000 since starting the first tournament in April 2002," Yeast noted.

This year's proceeds will also be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and McDonough District Hospital mammogram services and other cancer-screening programs.
