WIU, SVCC Linkages Agreement

MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University-Quad Cities and Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) recently signed a new agreement that will allow students to concurrently enroll at both institutions.
According to Joe Rives, vice president of the Quad Cities and planning, the Linkages Program allows students to take courses at both WIU-QC and a participating community college during their first and second year of college to ensure a successful transfer.
"We are pleased to enter into another partnership with Sauk Valley Community College, and that Western and its community college partners are working together to achieve the region's and the University's goal to recruit and retain high-achieving students," said WIU President Jack Thomas.
The agreement includes all of Western's degree programs, including the nationally-recognized three-year accelerated degree in recreation, park and tourism administration offered at the WIU-Quad Cities campus, Rives added.
"Not only does this agreement serve those students who wish to transfer to our Quad Cities campus to complete their four-year degree, it also benefits students who want to start with us and then transfer to Macomb," Rives said.
In addition to the Linkages Program with SVCC, WIU-QC has a 2+2 dual admission program established with Sauk Valley. Students gain admission to their community college and Western simultaneously and will receive customized academic advising.
"This is a great opportunity for the Sauk Valley and our students to be able to complete course work here knowing that they are being prepared for their bachelor's degree at WIU," said George Mihel, SVCC president.
