WIU Steel Band Concert April 27

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University School of Music's Steel Band featuring University of Iowa School of Music Associate Director Dan Moore will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

Under the Director of Percussion Studies Rick Kurasz, the Steel Band will perform "Sarah," by Leonard ‘Boogsie' Sharpe, "Morning Dance," by Jay Beckenstein, "Mariella's Dance," by Ray Holman, "Give im' Up," by Alan Lightner, "Trapeze," by Andy Narell, "December Snow," by Justin Hayward, "I Want You Back," by Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonzo Mizell and Deke Richards, "Long Time Comin'," by Adam Anderson and "Pan in My System," by Holman.

Moore is head of Iowa Percussion, a student-centric program that spans a variety of musical styles including steel band, traditional Chinese drumming and concert percussion. His CD "Cabinet of Curiosities: The Graphic Percussion Scores of Robert Moran," was claimed by Robert Carl to be "one of the finest releases I've ever heard to take the indeterminacy bull by the horns and make refined, engaging and varied music of it."

Moore is a Yamaha international performing artist, a signature mallet artist for Innovative Percussion and a member of the Zendrum 21st Century Techno-Tribe. He also serves on the board of directors for the Percussive Arts Society International Organization for Percussionists.

The concert is open free to the public.
