WIU Chamber Orchestra Concert April 28

MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University's Chamber Orchestra will feature Associate Professor István Szabó during its performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

Under the baton the Director of Orchestral Activities Richard Hughey, the Chamber Orchestra will perform "Concerto Grosso in D Major, Op. 6, No. 5," by Georg Friedrich Händel, "Adagio and Fugue in C Minor, KV546," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and "Concerto in C Major for Viola and Orchestra," by Joseph Schubert.

Szabo earned a double major in viola pedagogy and performance from the George Dima Academy of Music in Cluj, Romania. He went on to receive his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois. He is a member of Western's Julstrom String Quartet, the associate principal violist in the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and the assistant principal violist in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. Szabo has also been a clinician for the American String Teachers Association.

Rebecca Malina (a senior music major from Forest Park, IL), Luciana Hontila (a junior music major from Cluj, Romania) and Samantha Flores Guerrero (a freshman music major from Tijuana, Mexico) will be featured in the performance.

The performance is open free to the public.
