MACOMB, IL – On your mark, get set .... GO! It's almost time for the Western Illinois Senior Olympics! The 33rd annual event for men and women ages 50 and over will be held Friday-Saturday, April 26-27 on Western Illinois University's Macomb campus.

Seniors will compete against others in their age/gender category, which includes a five-year span (50-54, 55-59, etc.). Participants can take part in – and establish records in – table tennis, horseshoes and disc golf contests, as well as traditional events: golf, 9- or 18-holes (or miniature); biking; bowling; swimming; track and field events; and free throw shooting.

Nearly 100 athletes from Macomb and the surrounding region participate in the games each year, according to Mike Lukkarinen, co-coordinator of the Western Illinois Senior Olympics.

"The Senior Olympics provides participants with the opportunity to test their skills in a competitive, yet friendly, arena that recognizes individuals for their healthy lifestyle," Lukkarinen, added. "Our participants are proof that age is nothing but a number. Each year, I am impressed with the level of skill that these competitors bring to the games."
