MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University will honor four employees for contributions to the University and present awards for years of service during the annual Service Recognition Reception Tuesday, April 2.

This year, the Western Illinois University Recognition and Service Award will be presented to Jerel Jones, a police officer with the WIU Office of Public Safety, Curtis Williams, associate director of Student Services at the WIU Quad Cities Campus, Jane Woerly, office manager in the WIU Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and Danny Ostrander, a building service worker with the Facilities Management Department.

Jones was nominated not only for his shift work with OPS, but for saving the life of a man and his pets in October 2012. While patrolling on Riverview Drive, Jones saw smoke coming from the roof of a house on Holden Terrace and helped the owner and his two cats evacuate safely.

Willams was nominated for his professional activities, as well as his work in the Quad Cities community, which exemplifies the University's core values. Williams has developed a network in the Quad Cities in which he promotes the educational opportunities available at the WIU-QC campus and the value of a college education.

Woerly's nominators said she "exemplifies academic excellence" through her job, including helping create six new online courses in philosophy and religious studies. "She personifies love of learning," her nominator said, and she contributes in "positive and creative ways" to the department where she works.

Ostrander was nominated for the annual award for a February 2013 incident, where he helped a co-worker who was having heart problems by driving him to the hospital and staying with him to answer questions when he could not speak.
