The Petrella Ensemble March 25

MACOMB, IL - -Piano and percussion duo The Petrella Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25 in Western Illinois University's College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

The Petrella Ensemble's program includes "In Ancient Temple Gardens," by W.L. Cahn, "Islands That Never Were," by WIU Professor James Romig, "Genesis," by Dana Wilson, "China West Suite," by Chen Yi, "The Spell," by Aleksandra Vrebalov and "Matre's Dance," by John Psathas.

The duo is made up of Diane Helfers Petrella and Nick Petrella. They have authored "The Musician's Toolbox," "Thoughts on Teaching and Learning" and the article "I've Got Rhythm, I've Got Phrasing." They have taught and performed throughout the U.S. and in Mexico, Poland, Austria and Czech Republic.

Helfers Petrella is an associate professor of piano and piano pedagogy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). She has performed as a soloist with several regional ensembles and is the current president of the Missouri Music Teachers Association.

Petrella is director of education for Sabian Ltd. and an adjunct assistant professor of percussion. He has authored "The Ultimate Guide to Cymbals" and "The Multiple-Percussion Book." He holds 12 designs for sticks, mallets and percussion accessories.
