MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance presents a faculty performance of Igor Stravinksy's "L'Histoire du Soldat," at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

"L'Histoire du Soldat," or "The Soldier's Tale," follows the story of a soldier heading home after war, when he trades his fiddle to the devil for a book that predicts the future of the economy. The story, which is based off a Russian folk tale, is told through three speaking characters the devil, the soldier and a narrator and a non-speaking dancer who portrays the princess. The original piece consists of a dance, narrating speech and music, but is normally performed as a ballet, without the narrator.

WIU faculty participating in the performance are: Director of Bands Mike Fansler, conductor; Associate Professor Julieta Mihai, violin; Professor Eric Ginsberg, clarinet; Professor Douglas Huff, bassoon; Professor Bruce Briney, trumpet; Associate Professor John Mindeman, trombone; Associate Professor Rick Kurasz, percussion; Professor Bill Kincaid, narrator; and Associate Professor Heidi Clemmens, dancer.

The performance is open free to the public.
