Brazilian Percussionist to Visit WIU For Class, Performance

MACOMB, IL – Brazilian musician Dedé Sampaio will serve as a percussionist in residency at Western Illinois University on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Sampaio will present a master class on the techniques and rhythms of traditional Brazilian percussion instruments at 2 p.m. in Sallee Hall, room 102. Then, at 7:30 p.m., he will perform with the Hopper Jazztet, made up of WIU faculty, in the Heritage Room of the University Union.

Admission to both events is free.

The visit will be hosted by the WIU Percussion Studies office. The percussionist in residency visit is co-sponsored by the Performing Arts Society, the Visiting Lecture Committee and the Council on Student Activities Funds.
