"The Art of the Sonata" Terry Everson Guest Trumpet Recital Feb. 1

MACOMB, IL - - Boston University Trumpet Professor Terry Everson will present "The Art of the Sonata," at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 in the Western Illinois University College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

The international trumpet soloist will perform "Sonatine" by Jean Françaix, "Sonatina" by Jean Martinu, "Sonata" by Karl Pilss and "Sonata" by Jean Hubeau.

Everson is an internationally renowned soloist, educator, composer/arranger, conductor and church musician. He has won the Baroque/Classical and 20th Century categories at the Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Competition, and was named first prize laureate at the Louis D. McMahon International Music competition. He has recorded with the New England Brass Band and the Lexington Brass Band and is principal trumpet of the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Everson is on the executive committee of the National Trumpet Competition, the board of directors of Metro Church and is a life member of the International Trumpet Guild. He has published articles in the "ITG Journal" on preparation for solo competitions and memorization, and for six years was the journal's Music Notation Specialist. He earned his bachelor's and master of music from Ohio State University.
