MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University students currently living in the residence halls can renew their contracts for their home away from home beginning Monday, Nov. 26.

Students interested in keeping same room assignments may renew their housing Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 26-28. Open houses will be held in Corbin, Olson, Lincoln, Washington and Grote halls from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Senior student housing renewal (for new room assignments) begins Monday, Dec. 3, followed by junior student renewal Tuesday, Dec. 4. New room renewal assignments for sophomores and freshmen will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5 and Thursday, Dec. 6, respectively. Renew by visiting the "Housing Renewal" screen on STARS. Roommate holds are now available for renewal.
Individual renewal times for students will be e-mailed to students. Students who do not renew during their assigned time can do so during the "Open Renewal" period from Friday, Dec. 7 through Wednesday, Dec. 19. All students who renew before Feb. 15 are entered in to a drawing to win a free room for a semester.

The following living learning communities are available for renewal: nursing, broadcasting, fine arts, academic excellence and honors. Students interested in renewing to an assignment in a living learning community must contact the academic adviser for the department hosting the community.

According to Leann Meckler, assistant director of marketing and communication for UHDS, students should be aware of the changes taking place for the 2013-14 academic term. Bayliss, Henninger and Tanner halls will be exclusively First Year buildings, and Thompson Hall will house upper-division honors and nursing living learning communities, as well as the transfer living learning community. Some floors in Thompson will be available for general housing. Higgins Hall will close following the Spring 2013 semester and will not be an option for renewal.

Students with less than 60 hours of academic credit or less than four semesters of living on campus are required to live on campus. A penalty fee will be imposed if a student does not fulfill this requirement. Friday, March 1 is the last day to revoke a housing contract without penalty for those students meeting the eligibility requirements.
