The Ag Council coordinates and unites the activities of the fourteen specialized agriculture student organizations. They also sponsor activities having general agriculture interest.

Agricultural Education Club

The Agricultural Education Club was established to further develop professionalism among Agricultural Education majors. They attend and conduct professional development workshops that occur twice a year at different teacher education institutions in the state. A mentoring system has been established to assist new members with course scheduling, certification requirements, and help new members with their electronic portfolio. They also conduct some fundraising activities to assist with some of the travel associated with workshops and conferences. This organization was established in 2006.

Agricultural Mechanization Club

Provides opportunities for those interested in agricultural engineering/mechanization to further their education in the field, develop leadership abilities, and serve the university and the agricultural community. Activities of the Club include a close cooperation with industry as demonstrated by the sponsorship of the Agricultural Mechanization Show, which is the largest event of its kind in the Nation that is organized and conducted by college students.

Alpha Zeta

A national honorary agriculture fraternity that stresses scholarship of the individual, leadership in public and university life, and service to the university and to fellow agriculture students.

Collegiate Farm Bureau

The Collegiate Farm Bureau engages students in educational, leadership and networking opportunities while connecting students with the Illinois Farm Bureau. Become a member of the WIU chapter and you'll interact with other students, community leaders, government officials, and more! You will have the unique opportunity to attend the Illinois Farm Bureau's annual meeting, Collegiate Discussion Meets, and Young Leaders Conference. You will also gain all of the benefits that a Farm Bureau member receives.

Collegiate FFA

Provides prospective agriculture teachers and others interested in agriculture with experiences in leadership development, which strengthens confidence in the future of agricultural education occupations. The chapter hosts section and district public speaking, agricultural mechanics, livestock, state forestry, FFA contests and other professional activities with vocational agriculture instructors.

Forestry Club

The Forestry Club is a non-profit organization that is affiliated with the School of Agriculture. The Forestry Club is also the charter organization for the Western Illinois University Student Branch of the Student Society of Arboriculture, which is an organization affiliated with the International Society of Arboriculture. Forestry Club/WIUSB meets to promote higher education standards among the students of forestry and related fields, to gain experience that is not able to be taught in the classroom, and to generate credible relations regarding the practice of forestry within the community.


A chapter of the National Block and Bridle Club promotes a higher scholastic standard, a spirit of fellowship, and brings about a closer relationship among students who have an interest in animal science.

Horticulture Club

The Horticulture Club was created to educate and promote horticulture on campus. The Horticulture Club strives to beautify and preserve nature as well as provides fellowship among individuals with horticultural interests.

Every year the WIU Horticulture Club hosts the FFA contest for horticulture, known as the career development event (CDE). Students from area high schools compete in four tests: general horticulture, landscape design, plant judging, and plant identification.

The WIU Horticulture club has helped in campus beautification, the Cans Across America canned food drive, Toys for Tots, and the Angel Tree.

Field trips each year have included visits to Baxter Winery in Nauvoo, IL, Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Anderson Japanese Garden in Rockford, IL, Buckley’s Greenhouse in Taylorville, IL, Washington Park Botanical Garden and Lincoln Memorial Gardens in Springfield, IL, Ball Seed, West Chicago, IL, Cantigny Gardens, Wheaton, IL, and Pan-American Seed, Elburn, IL.

Livestock Judging

Represents WIU at state and national livestock judging contests in the Senior College Division. It welcomes students interested in expanding their knowledge of livestock, evaluating livestock, developing communication skills, and competing on the superior level of national competition. WIU team-members strive for team awards, as well as individual accomplishments.
