Family Weekend 2008

Family Weekend 2008The University Union Board cordially invites you and your family to join us September 19-21 for Family Weekend 2008! This year's family oriented events are sure to make this a memorable time. From the ever popular Golf Outing, fabulous food, fun family races and games, an outdoor carnival, professional family portraits to the Leatherneck football game- we offer something for everyone.

Slam Poet at Western

Mike McGeeThe Coffeehouse Committee brings Slam Poet, Mike McGee as their first offering for the semester on Wednesday, September 3. McGee, the first Slam Poet to win both the 2003 American National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Championship and the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Championship combines both humor and deep insight to his spoken images. Mighty Mike McGee, as he is known, will make you laugh, smile and think. Join UUB, September 3 at 7:30 p.m., in the basement level Billiards Room of the University Union for this unique and entertaining event. Free refreshments will be available.

UUB Presents Ag Silver

Ag SilverAg Silver, winner of Michigan’s largest Battle of the Bands (December, 2003), comes to Western on Tuesday, September 9 for a noon concert at the UUB Zone on the campus mall. Known for an arena like concert experience and great musicianship, their new album is receiving stellar revues and airplay on more than 200 college radio stations nationwide. Admission is free.

Man vs. Nature: Removing the Mystery of Disaster

On September 23 at 7 p.m. in Morgan Hall 109, Dr. Fred May will present, "Man vs. Nature: Removing the Mystery of Disaster." This program will discuss the wide variety of natural disasters such as flooding, tornados and hurricanes as well as how our society responds and reacts to them. Join UUB's Issues and Ideas Committee as they explore with Dr. May the many and varied natural events that affect our society on a local and national scale.
