Centennial Honors College

2008-09 Calendar of Events

Although summer means most students left campus until late August, the Centennial Honors College has been planning events for students and alumni for 2008-2009. This academic year will mark the “25-10” year for Western Illinois Honors: 2008 is the 25th year of Honors organized as a University-wide Program at WIU and 2009 will be the 10 year anniversary of the college.  Watch for further announcements in the months ahead!

Phi Eta Sigma Induction—10-11:30 a.m., September 20, Olson Conference Center. First-year students who earned outstanding academic records during 2007-2008 and their guests have been invited to participate in this second annual Family Weekend event. This year, 53 students and 149 guests have registered to attend.

Homecoming President’s Tent—October 18. We hope to see you under the Big Tent before the game! 

The Centennial Honors College will once again be there to meet and greet Honors alumni.  While enjoying the food and company of fellow alumni, please stop by our display and meet Honors staff. If you cannot attend, send us a card or an e-mail. We would like to feature stories of Honors College alums in the College Newsletter.

Academic Honors Convocation—5:30 p.m., December 19, Western Hall. If you are in Macomb for fall graduation and know a graduate who has earned summa, magna, or cum laude honors or has been selected as a department, college, or university honors recipient, please attend this twice-yearly ceremony celebrating academic achievement.

Eighth Annual Pre-Law Symposium—February 16, University Union. Alumni with an interest in legal studies and the practice of law are invited to this event which combines an experienced panel to answer questions from WIU students interested in attending law school with a keynote address by a legal expert. A reception will follow.     

Seventh Annual Undergraduate Research Day—April 29, University Union.  Highlighting the research and creativity of students across the university, this year’s event will also highlight both the Program and College years of University Honors.
