Service vs Philanthropy

What is Service? 

Community service involves partaking in an activity to provide SERVICE for an organization, cause, or community. 

Examples of Service: 

  • Street Clean-Ups 
  • Painting a School 
  • Serving Food at a Shelter 

 

What is Philanthropy?  

Philanthropy involves raising money and/or items for a charitable cause.  

Examples of Philanthropy: 

  • Canned Food Drives
  • Hosting a Fundraiser 
  • Collecting Items to Donate 

 

Tracking Service Hours on Volunteer Link- 

What types of service are approved
  • Participating in Make a Difference Day 
  • Volunteering with the WIRCAA
  • Setting up for Flags of Love 
  • Providing water for participants at a charity 5K

 

What types of service are not approved
  • Bake sales 
  • Selling raffle tickets
  • Attending a chapter fundraiser 
  • Give-Back Nights at a restaurant 
  • Internships 
  • Any activity that is for personal gain/course credit. 

 

How to track your hours-
