Residence Hall Move Out Instructions

The following information is important as you prepare to leave WIU for the summer. 

All residence halls will close at 7 P.M. on Friday, May 10thAll residents must be vacated by this time. 

If you need to stay past Friday, May 10th at 7 P.M. , you must get permission from the Complex Director by signing up through your STARS account. Seek permission by Friday, May 3rd at 5 P.M. 

The final closure of all Residence Halls is Sunday, May 12th at 10am. 

Attend your End of the Year Floor Meeting
  • Schedule a time to checkout with your RA and discuss any questions you might have regarding closing with your RA (Resident Assistant).
Schedule a time to Check Out with your RA
  • You will need to have your room inspected and turn in your keys to your RA.
  • You must check out no later than 25 hours than after your last final. 
Pack or properly dispose of your belongings
  • Empty drawers, desk, etc.
  • Please place any Sodexo items (plates, cups, salt and pepper, baskets, etc.) in the box on your floor. No questions asked, this is to help keep your future dining costs down.
  • Remove tape and door decorations from your door.
  • Please do not check out if any items are left in your room, except university furniture and the Ethernet cable that came with the room. 
Clean Your Room
  • Empty your room of all trash.
  • Clean all surfaces including counters and floors.
  • Defrost and clean out microfridge.

Vacuums and carts will be available through the front desk.

Vacuums will be available for a limited amount of time. There are a limited amount of vacuums so please be considerate of your hallmates. 

Reset Room Furniture
  • Room furnitire should be reassembled as it was at the start of the year. End of Year room setup pictures can be found in the box below. 
      • Retrieve bed rails from the luggage closet and leave in the room.
      • Return your bed ladder to the front desk if applicable.
      • See your RA if you have any questions on this set-up. Failure to reset your room could result in a fine of up to $100.

Please be sure to follow our guidelines from the floor meeting to avoid charges on your Room Condition Report. 



 
 

Other Information You Need To Know :

Food Service: Corbin-Olson and Thompson dining centers will be open during normal business hours during the week of finals. Both dining centers will be open for brunch only on Saturday, May 11th. 

Mail Service: Mail service ends on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Please make arrangements to have received all of your mail at that time. Remaining mail will be forwarded to the permanent address you have on file at the Registrar office. 

Trash: Please plan accordingly for your trash. There are designated areas for large trash by dumpsters. Please only use the trash chute for its intended purpose. Trash bags are available at the front desk. 

Quiet Hours: Intensive quiet hours begin on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 1am, and will continue through Friday, May 10, 2024, at 7p.m.  There will be a courtesy hours from 5 - 8p.m. each night. The only available time to check-out a vacuum is during courtesy hours.

Disciplinary Behavior: Any behavior not supporting the academic environment of finals week could result in a relocation from your current residence hall space or a removal from the residence halls prior to closing. 

Residence Hall Desks: Residence hall desks will close on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 10a.m.
