Centennial Honors College
HONORS GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIPS
The Honors College offers grants and scholarships to current honor students who are in good standing (have a minimum gpa of 3.4 and meeting Honors College enrollment requirements). The scholarship application is open in the spring semester.
Be prepared to answer questions regarding campus and community involvement, which is required for many of the Honors scholarships. It would be helpful to have your resume handy.
Listed award amounts are estimated and subject to change.
Award: Up to $500 (four awards) / Once per academic year
Criteria:
- Good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Demonstrated progress toward the completion of honors requirements
- Participation in a Study Abroad program 3 weeks or longer offered by an accredited college/university
- Preference given to students enrolling in a program offered by WIU
- Participants in an exchange program providing a full scholarship are not eligible
- Completion of an honors project
- A completed “Descriptive Proposal” form with required signatures
- A letter of support from a full time faculty member
- Must attend Honors Council meeting to discuss proposed project

Award: $500 - $1,000 (depending on destination)
Criteria:
- Be in good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Have applied and been accepted to a WIU authorized Study Abroad program or WIU faculty led travel course
- Preference given to honors students planning to take a General Honors (GH) travel course
- Preference given to those who demonstrate financial need

- Two page (minimum) typed essay explaining what you hope to learn during your travel-study experience

Award: Not to exceed $200 / Once per academic year
Criteria:
- Good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Demonstrated progress toward the completion of honors requirements
- Students must have a departmentally approved research project with a faculty research advisor and faculty research committee where relevant

Award: Estimated $2,500 ($1,250 in fall and spring of following academic year)
Criteria:
- Good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Must be enrolled full-time as an honors sophomore, junior, or senior at WIU at time of disbursement
- Minimum 3.6 GPA
- Have completed coursework in at least one honors class
- Demonstrate financial need

- Upload with your application: Two page (minimum) typed essay on the following topic, "Choose an experience from your life and explain how it has influenced your personal development and/or character."
- Ask at least one member of faculty, staff or administration to email a letter of recommendation directly to honors@wiu.edu
Award: Estimated $500 (current semester, open to freshmen - graduating seniors)
Criteria:
- Be in good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Resident of Illinois or Missouri
- Have at least a 3.6 GPA at WIU
- Demonstrate leadership or civic duty in campus or community service, with preference to the Centennial Honors College
- Demonstrate financial need

Award: Estimated $1,400 (lump sum in fall semester)
Criteria:
- Must be a member of a historically underrepresented community
- Demonstrate excellence in leadership at WIU
- Must be enrolled full-time as an honor student at WIU at the time of disbursement
- Preference given to a student returning as a junior, but all are welcome to apply
- Be in good standing in the Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU

- Ask at least one member of faculty, staff or administration to email a letter of recommendation directly to honors@wiu.edu
Award: Estimated $1,000 ($500 in fall and spring of following academic year)
Criteria:
- Demonstrate intent to attend law school and practice law
- Be in good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Must be enrolled full-time as an honor student at WIU at the time of disbursement
- Preference will be given to applicants from West Central Illinois, however all are welcome to apply
- Financial need is considered

Award: Estimated $1,500 ($750 in fall and spring of following academic year)
Criteria:
- Pursing coursework through a pre-law major option or minor
- Have a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA
- Be in good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Demonstrate strong potential for a career in law
- Demonstrate intent to attend law school and practice law
- Must be enrolled full-time as an honor student at WIU at the time of disbursement
- Preference will be given to current sophomores and juniors, however all are welcome to apply

Award: Estimated $10,000 ($5,000 in fall and spring of following academic year)
Criteria:
- Enrolled in and completing coursework in the Pre-Law Honors Minor
- Demonstrate strong potential for attending law school and practicing law
- Be in good standing of the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Must be enrolled full-time as an honor student at WIU at the time of disbursement
- Demonstrate leadership in the field of Pre-Law
- Minimum 3.5 GPA

- Upload with your application: Two page (minimum) typed essay demonstrating your commitment to the study and practice of law and highlighting your leadership in the field
- Ask at least two faculty members to email letters of recommendation directly to honors@wiu.edu
Award: Estimated $10,000 ($5,000 in fall and spring of following academic year)
Criteria:
- Enrolled in and completing coursework in the Pre-Law Honors Minor
- Must be enrolled full-time as a senior honor student at WIU at the time of disbursement
- Have at least a 3.4 GPA at WIU
- Be in good standing in the Centennial Honors College
- Be in good judicial standing at WIU
- Demonstrate solid record of extracurricular participation- leadership preferred
- Demonstrate solid record of campus and/or community service
- Demonstrate financial need
