Vehicle Liability Insurance

Western Illinois University vehicles are covered by the State of Illinois Self-Insured Motor Vehicle Liability Plan. This liability plan provides very limited coverage and extends to the other party’s property or persons that are damaged or injured when the accident is by fault of a University driver. 

If a University employee is injured during an accident, they will be asked to complete a worker’s compensation claim through WIU Human Resources.

Vehicle repairs for university owned vehicles in an accident are charged back to the responsible department. 

Liability insurance is provided only within the scope of the authorized travel. The primary driver listed on the vehicle requisition is responsible for the vehicle during the trip.
