School Health Endorsement

We encourage all of our physical education majors to enroll in courses that will lead to additional certification in Health.  This certification will allow students to teach K-12 Physical Education and Health Education.

The school health endorsement requires students to complete a total of 18 credit hours as prescribed below;

Required Courses (18 credit hours)

  • HS 211 - Principles of Health Sciences (3 cr)
  • HS 313 - Application of Theories and concepts in Health Education (3 cr)
  • HE 432 - The Coordinated School Health Program (3 cr)
  • HE 433 - School Health Curriculum (3 cr)
  • HE 440 - Sexuality Education in the Home, School, and Community (3 cr)
  • HE 442 -Drug Education in the Home, School, and Community (3 cr)

Electives

  • HE 120 - Personal Health Promotion (2 cr)
  • HE 121 - Human Sexuality (2 cr)
  • HE 123 - Drug Use and Abuse (2 cr)
  • NUTR 109 - Introduction to Nutrition (3 cr)
  • HS 251 - First Aid (2 cr)

ISBE Health

Requirements for Licensure in Health

Physical Education majors who complete the prescribed 24 credit hours of coursework in Health Education are prepared for the ISBE Content Test in Health.  Upon successful completion of this test, physical education majors will be eligible for state licensure to teach Health.
