Spooky Simpkins' Stories
Inspired by the homecoming theme in 2017, “Storybook: A Tale of Leatherneck Pride,” the Department of English held their first tailgating event and participated in the Dec the Office Contest (to which they won second place). For the contest, our remarkably creative secretary, Lynne Ward, wrote a story about Harold the Simpkins’ ghost meeting Rocky (WIU’s mascot) for the first time to which they eventually become friends and show their “school spirit” at football games every year. Together, the Spirit Squad - Harold and Rocky - Booooo the other team and cheer on WIU.
This may be a made up story, but Harold the Ghost has made real stories for our faculty, staff, students, and visitors over the years. Do you have a haunting or curious story about Simpkins Hall or Harold the Ghost? Write up a blurb and let us post it in our halls, webpage, and Facebook.
Email: TR-Dimmick@wiu.edu. We are dying to read them. Especially Harold!
