Student Learning Outcomes

Speech Pathology  (M.S.)

 

Based on ASHA Standards, upon completion of this program, the student will be able to: 

  1. demonstrate knowledge in the following areas:
    1. identification of the major components of basic human communication and swallowing processes, including the appropriate biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural bases (ASHA Standard IV-B)
    2. identification of the characteristics of communication and swallowing disorders and differences, including the appropriate etiologies, anatomical/physiological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, and linguistic and cultural correlates for phonological and language disorders, speech disorders, neurogenic disorders, and audiology/hearing disorders (ASHA Standard IV-C)
    3. selection of the appropriate methods of prevention, assessment, and intervention for people with communication and swallowing disorders (ASHA Standard IV–D)
    4. identification and application of standards of ethical conduct (ASHA Standard IV-E)
    5. integration of research principles into evidence-based clinical practice (ASHA Standard IV-F)
    6. identification of professional issues, regulations, a policies (ASHA Standards IV-G and IV-H)
  2. plan, administer, and interpret evaluations of clients with speech, language, and/or swallowing disorders (ASHA Standards IV-C, IV-D, and V-B)
  3. plan and implement appropriate intervention for clients with speech, language, and/or swallowing disorders (ASHA Standard V-B)
  4. demonstrate professional skills needed for practice as a speech-language pathologist including adherence to professional and ethical standards (ASHA Standards IV-B, IV-E, IV-F, IV-G, V-A, and V-B)
