Physics (M.S.)
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate mastery of the basic core of theoretical physics and the ability to apply his or her theoretical knowledge to the solution of problems, including the following areas, which are included in the core courses:
- classical mechanics
- electromagnetic fields
- quantum mechanics
- mathematical methods of physics
- demonstrate competency in one or more areas of experimental physics, including:
- basic measurement skills
- analog and digital electronics and Instrumentation
- computer interfacing
- computerized data collection and analysis
- optical instrumentation
- vacuum technology
- cryogenic technology
- nano materials preparation and characterization
- astronomical observation and data analysis
- introductory physics laboratory supervision or setup
- demonstrate competency in one or more of the following areas of computational physics:
- spreadsheets, data processing, graphing, and curve fitting
- programming languages
- mathematical processors
