Community and Economic Development (M.A.)
Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to engage in systems thinking by applying classical and contemporary concepts of community development such as Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) and the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) to develop a personal philosophy of, and approach to, community development (community development skills)
- demonstrate an ability to explain the factors, assets, and deficits that affect a local economy; demonstrate the ability to implement an economic development model and prescribe a set of policies that can help improve the economic development trajectory of a local economy (economic development skills)
- demonstrate analytic and research methods commonly used in the field of community and economic development to help community stakeholders make informed decisions about plans of action (analytic and research skills)
- communicate in written format, in face-to-face settings, online, and through social media (communication skills)
