Internship Opportunities
To promote the academic mission of Western Illinois University and provide opportunities for students pursuing degrees in Accountancy, the WIU Office of Internal Auditing participates in an internship program with the academic Accountancy Department. In addition to earning academic credit, student interns receive relevant, valuable on the job work experience which complements their classroom education. Student interns work under the guidance, direction and supervision of WIU internal auditors while performing job assignments.
Internship opportunities are coordinated through the Accountancy Department and are available for the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Candidates are interviewed the preceding semester of the internship. Please click here to view the Intern Job Description.

Graduate Assistantship (GA) Opportunities
Based upon the needs of the department, Graduate Assistantships may also be a way the Internal Auditing Department promotes the academic mission of Western Illinois University. Student pursuing Graduate Asssistantships should look for opportunities and requirements listed with the School of Graduate Studies. Students will work directly with the Internal Auditing staff to help accomplish University, and departmental goals. This includes not only maintaining regulatory and University compliance for the department, but assisting in audits and serving in advisory roles to other departments across the University. Students from several academic areas can gain hands-on experience in their fields of study and expertise. Some of these fields include: Accounting, Auditing, Computer Science, and Data Analytics. You will need to meet all of the requirements of the School of Graduate Studies along with submitting a letter of interest and resume to the Director of Internal Auditing. Graduate Assistantships include a monthly stipend and tuition waiver. Full-time assistantships are required to work up to 20 hours per week.
