WIU Student Hotline
WIU Student Hotline
What is Hotline?
Hotline is a service provided for both the Western Illinois University and Macomb communities. Our staff consists of paraprofessional student volunteers. We are trained to provide callers with information, referrals, and telephone support and guidance. We provide empathy and understanding while helping callers resolve their concerns.
History:
Hotline was founded on the campus of Western Illinois University in 1971. Originally, we were formed because of McDonough County's very high suicide rate. One of our original services was anonymous drug testing for WIU students. In the course of the past 30 years Hotline has since dropped anonymous drug testing, and now focuses on the original purpose for which we were founded to provide telephone support, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and advocacy.
