Important Dates and Deadlines
Graduation Application
- Graduation applications must be filed with the School of Graduate Studies by
March
10
(for spring graduates) and
October 10
(for fall graduates) in order for their names to appear in the program. If received after that date, the graduation date will be moved to the next semester. (Must have a degree plan on file in the School of Graduate Studies before application can be accepted.)
- The Application for Graduation form can be found here.
- Attending commencement does not guarantee graduation. All academic requirements must be complete and all paperwork on file in the School of Graduate Studies by January 3, 2025 before fall diplomas are awarded.
Cap and Gown Orders
- The University Bookstore is the sole provider of officially licensed Western Illinois University graduation regalia. Caps, gowns, tassels and hoods are available from the University Union Bookstore beginning October 28, 2024. Visit wiu.edu/bookstore to order online. Graduates will wear black caps and gowns.
- The cost is as follows:
- $78.00 for master and specialist degrees
- $110.00 for doctorate degree
- Orders may be shipped via UPS through December 2, 2024.

Commencement Program
- Students must have their graduation application on file in the School of Graduate Studies office by
March
10
(for spring graduates) and
October 10
(for fall graduates). If received after that date, the graduation date will be moved to the next semester.
- Students who have invoked the Privacy Act will not have their names appear in the online program or released to their local media by University Relations unless they sign a release form at the Office of the Registrar.
- The commencement program will be available online.
Diploma
- Your diploma and a complimentary transcript will be mailed approximately 6-8 weeks after commencement, providing there are no financial encumbrances and all requirements have been met. The address on your graduation application will be used.
