Section 1 - Automotive Mechanic

- Keep the work area free of excess grease and oil to avoid slips and falls.
- Never use hand tools that are not in good condition or broken, and check that they are free of excess grease and oil.
- Electric power tools must be in proper working order, free of frayed cords and shorts.
- When using electrical tools, make sure there is no water present or coolant from radiator.
- Electronic diagnostic instruments should be in good working order and not be used around water or other liquid that conducts electricity.
- Hydraulic lifts should be in good working order before use. Any perceived problem should be reported to the supervisor.
- Dispose of rags covered with petroleum products properly in order to prevent a fire.
- Never smoke, use an open flame or electrical equipment when working around gasoline or other flammable liquids.
- When working under a vehicle, avoid injury from falling debris, by wearing eye protection.
- In order to avoid infection, all injuries must be treated immediately.
- All work should be completed according to accepted procedures. Short cuts should not be taken.

- In order to ensure a safe work environment, perform each task according to the instructions given by the sub-foreman and that the correct tools are used.
- When working with hand tools, make sure they are in good repair and are free of excessive grease and oil.
- Make sure the work area is free of excess grease and oil in order to prevent slips and falls.
- When working under a vehicle, eye protection should be worn to avoid eye injury.
- Tire changing can be dangerous. Ensure that the vehicle is stable and that the lift/jack is in proper working order.
- Tire changing tools require a high degree of caution. The machine should only be used by properly trained personnel. Hands and loose clothing should be clear when engaging the machinery.
- When driving university vehicles, seat belts are always worn, and all traffic laws are to be obeyed.
- When working with gasoline or other flammables, do not smoke, use open flame, or use electrical tools.
- Dispose of rags covered with petroleum products properly in order to avoid a fire.
- Always use common sense, and if in doubt or unsure of a procedure, ask for assistance/instruction.
Section 3 - Garage Attendant

- Wear eye protection when working under a vehicle in order to prevent an eye injury.
- Make sure that all tools are in good working condition and free of excess grease and oil.
- When repairing tires, do not use any equipment that is not in proper working order.
- Be sure to use the proper tools when making repairs.
- Discard oil and grease coated rags properly in order to prevent fires.
- While driving university vehicles, always wear the seat belt and obey all traffic laws.
- No smoking, open flames, or electrical power tools should be present when gasoline and other flammable liquids are being used.
- When washing vehicles, the floors should be free of grease and oil. Make sure the high pressure hose is not pointed at anyone. Care should be taken due to the high water temperature. If soap splashes on the face, flush with clear water.
- Use common sense when performing all duties and seek assistance when in doubt of how to proceed.
