Music Therapy at WIU

The Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy provides opportunities for students to develop a wide range of musical, clinical, professional, and personal skills in their journey to becoming music therapists. With an on-campus clinic and varied community partnerships, music therapy students get hands-on learning experiences supervised by caring, skilled music therapy faculty who are dedicated to your development.

Bachelor of Music, Music Therapy

  • Learn to play guitar, piano, percussion instruments and to sing
  • Study music, psychology, human development and more

Music Therapy Clinical Training and Practice

  • Students complete practicum courses across their coursework to develop clinical skills. Music therapy students and faculty supervisors can be found in our community healthcare and disability services agencies.
  • Music therapy students from WIU have completed internships in over 15 states, including hospitals, hospice programs, agencies serving individuals with developmental disabilities, skilled nursing centers, mental health facilities, and private music therapy agencies.
  • Our alumni lead successful careers providing music therapy to people of all ages and abilities, serving as clinicians on interdisciplinary teams, in administrative roles, as business owners, and even as music therapy professors.
