Educator Preparation
School of Education Scholarships - for incoming freshmen and transfers
Ethel Ray Scholarship (up to $850 for incoming freshmen only; subject to change)
- entering WIU freshman majoring in Elementary Education
- minimum ACT score of 25
- be in the upper 25% of graduating class
Maurice G. Kellogg Scholarship (up to $1250 for incoming freshmen only; subject to change)
- incoming freshmen with an ACT score of 26 or above (or an equivalent score on a like test) or rank in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class
- Intent to major in Elementary Education
- Preference will be given to students who are graduates of a high school in Hancock or Fulton counties.
- If there are no student(s) from Hancock or Fulton counties that qualifies the scholarship is open to all graduates of Illinois high schools
- financial need is considered
- Evidence of involvement in high school and community activities; i.e. youth groups, academic clubs, scholastic teams, etc.; especially in a leadership role, will be considered in awarding the scholarship.
- Additional consideration may be given to the students that have indicated an interest and/or strong record in science. Although not a major criterian, courses taken in science, GPA in science, and possible interest in teaching elementary science should be considered in the final selection of scholarship recipient(s).
Maxine L. Robinson Scholarship (up to $450; subject to change)
- incoming WIU freshman or transfer majoring in Elementary Education
- if freshman, have minimum ACT of 23 and rank in upper 25% of class and be a resident of one of 27 West-Central Illinois counties* served by Western Illinois University
- if transfer, have minimum 30 semester hours with 3.25 G.P.A. transferring from any community college or university
- demonstrate financial aid
- show evidence of involvement in high school and community activities
Oliver and Mary Troyer Scholarship ($1000 for incoming freshmen only; subject to change)
- entering WIU freshman majoring in Elementary Education
- minimum ACT score of 25
- minimum grade point average of 3.0
- demonstrate financial need
Opal Wedeberg Scholarship (up to $300; subject to change)
- incoming WIU freshman or transfer majoring in Elementary Education
- if freshman, have minimum ACT of 23 and rank in upper 25% of class and
- if transfer, have minimum 30 semester hours with 3.25 G.P.A. transferring from any community college or university
- demonstrate financial aid
- show evidence of involvement in high school and community activities
- be a resident of one of 27 West-Central Illinois counties* served by Western Illinois University
*27 West-Central Illinois Counties: Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Jersey, Knox, Logan, Macoupin, Mason, McDonough, Menard, mercer, Morgan, Peoria, Pike, Rock Island, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Tazewell and Warren
