Educator Preparation
School of Education Scholarships for currently enrolled students
Nancy A. Brown Scholarship (up to $2,000; subject to change)
- be a WIU Elementary Education Major
- completed 60 s.h. by conclusion of the spring semester
- minimum 3.00 G.P.A.
- preference will be given to applicants who can document community service
Albert & Dorothy Burgard Scholarship (up to $1,000; subject to change)
- be a WIU Elementary Education Major
- be admitted to the Teacher Education Program (TEP)
- minimum 2.75 G.P.A.
- preference will be given to applicants who are a resident of Hancock or McDonough County
- Students must write an essay on the "characteristics of the teachers that influenced you to become a teacher"
Anna Marie Gruber Scholarship (up to $4,800; subject to change)
- be a WIU Elementary Education junior or senior
- minimum 3.00 G.P.A.
- have at least two semesters remaining before graduation
- demonstrate potential as a teacher
- demonstrate financial need
Ida Blanch Bruner/Verlin K. Johnson Scholarship (up to $1,000; subject to change)
- be a WIU Early Childhood major
- be classified as a full-time student during scholarship period
- hold an academic class rank of junior
- provide evidence of demonstrated dependability, leadership and service
- minimum 2.8 G.P.A.
- completed at least one full-year at WIU
Mary Luman Shortness Scholarship (up to $1000; subject to change)
- majoring in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at WIU and pursing the Elementary Education option
- completed 60 semester hours by the conclusion of the spring semester
- have a minimum grade point average of 3.0
- demonstrated financial need (FAFSA may be used to determine financial need)
- letters of reference from two faculty members
John and Ivabell Means Scholarship (up to $1,250; subject to change)
- be a WIU Elementary Education junior or senior
- minimum 3.50 G.P.A.
Katharine T. Thompson Scholarship (up to $1,500; subject to change)
- be a WIU Elementary Education junior or senior
- minimum 3.00 G.P.A.
- demonstrate potential as a teacher
- demonstrate financial need
Thomas G. Oakson Memorial (up to $1,000; subject to change)
- GPA: 2.75 overall and 3.0 major
- From Lake or Macon Counties in Illinois
- Be a sophomore, junior, or senior Elementary Education major
- Write an essay explaining why he/she wants to be a teacher and how the scholarship will help with his/her education
- Include three (3) letters of recommendation for the scholarship with application
- Renewable
