Professional Background
Dr. Stinson began his career in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps in 1987. He is Airborne qualified and classified as a Mustang, having been enlisted and a commissioned officer from WIU’s R.O.T.C program. He received his bachelor's, Post-Baccalaureate, and Master’s Degrees from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement & Justice Administration, and his doctorate in Education from Capella University, specializing in Training & Performance Improvement.
Dr. Stinson began his civilian law enforcement career in 1994 at the River Forest Police Department. He started in the patrol division and subsequently served as a Crime Prevention Officer, Training Officer, and School Resource Officer at Oak Park & River Forest H. S. He transferred to the Berwyn Police Department in 2006 and retired from BPD as the Training Coordinator.
Dr. Stinson holds dozens of accredited state and federal certifications, including Rapid Deployment Instructor, NCMEC Protecting Children Online, NCMEC-SRO Leadership, Training Manager Specialist, Advanced Evidence Technician, Advanced Police Photography, John E. Reid® Interview & Interrogation, NCPI Level I & II, NCPI-CPTED, R.A.D. Systems® Instructor, rad Kids® Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Taser® Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Spontaneous Knife Defense Instructor, Ground Fighting Instructor, & Hazardous Material Response Train-the-Trainer, Breathalyzer Operator, Accident Investigations, D.A.R.E., D.A.R.E Junior High, IPMAB Police Cyclist, International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (Basic & Advanced Assisting Individuals in Crisis, Basic & Advanced Group Crisis Intervention Certified). He has worked and trained with the FBI Evidence Response Team and the Chicago Police Department forensic unit.
Dr. Stinson has received dozens of awards and citations from municipal, county, state, DoD, national law enforcement agencies and private organizations. He is a peer support advocate with The Wounded Blue foundation supporting law enforcement officers and their agencies in crisis. He is a current volunteer and past Volunteer Management Coordinator for Department of Defense office of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) chapter of Illinois.
Past Experience Teaching Online and Blended Courses
Dr. Stinson is an experienced face-to-face, blended (HY FLEX), and online teacher. He has been selected as an SME (subject matter expert) for numerous academic projects.
Personal Information
Dr. Stinson authored his doctoral dissertation on "ASSESSING MIDWESTERN POLICE LEADERS' PERCEPTIONS AND ADOPTION INTENT OF BODY-WORN CAMERAS". He is an instructor/trainer for Threat Pattern Recognition (Human Factor Research Group) and holds certificates from the Force Science® Institute, one of which is Body Cameras & Other Recordings in Law Enforcement. Dr. Stinson collects police memorabilia from around the world and enjoys spending time with his son and his wife, who is also in law enforcement and a WIU graduate.
