Another University Libraries Game Nite

Once just isn't enough! Due to the overwhelming response to the inaugural University Libraries Game Nite, a second one will be held this summer on Thursday, July 10, 2008 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the 3rd level of the Malpass Library at Western Illinois University in Macomb. The event will feature Wii, Xbox, LAN, and other electronic gaming as well as all sorts of traditional board and card games, with light snacks provided. The public is invited to this free and fun event; both seasoned experts and novice game players are welcome. Use library equipment or feel free to bring your own games and teach others. According to WIU Marketing and Outreach Librarian Dr. Jeffery Darensbourg, “These events are great for bringing people into the Malpass Library and people have a really wonderful time. Playing games is a fine intellectual activity and has been shown to increase logical thinking ability and stimulate an interest in other cultures.”

Mancala, a popular African game, was showcased during the first Game Nite and several attendees played it with great enjoyment. University Libraries will be hosting a series of Game Nites during the year. For more information, please contact Andrea Falcone, Virtual Services Librarian, at 309-298-3298 or AL-Falcone@wiu.edu.
