Connecting to Network Drives from Off-Campus

Connecting to Network Drives from Off-Campus

To connect to network locations (e.g. the S: drive or the P: drive) from an off-campus computer, please see the following instructions. If you are already on campus, proceed to step 2.

  1. Download and install the AnyConnect VPN Client to your computer
    1. Go to vpn.wiu.edu and log in with Ecom username and password
    2. In the left-hand pane click AnyConnect and follow the on-screen instructions to install
    3. Launch the Cisco AnyConnect client and type “vpn.wiu.edu” in the box
    4. Click connect and sign in with ecom and password
  2. To connect to a server folder, follow the instructions for your OS below.
    1.  Windows:
      1. Open File Explorer and select My PC in the left pane
      2. At the top select the Computer tab and click Map network drive and select Map network drive
      3. Click the Drive dropdown and select a drive letter
      4. In the folder box type the folder path
        (ex: S drive “\\ad.wiu.edu\groups” or P drive “\\samba.wiu.edu\Files”)
      5. Check Reconnect at sign-in and Connect using different credentials and press Finish
      6. Type in your Ecom@ad.wiu.edu and your password and check Remember my credentials
      7. The folder path should now be mapped
    2. Mac:
      1. In the menu bar at the top click Go and then Connect to server
      2. Type the server folder path and click the + button to save the address for next time
        (ex: S drive “smb://ad.wiu.edu/groups” or P drive “smb://samba.wiu.edu/Files”)
      3. Click Connect and enter your Ecom username and password
