MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Assistant Physical Plant Director Bill Brewer has been chosen as the May 2012 Employee of the Month.

Brewer was hired in December 1999 as an architect III, planning and design. On March 10, 2003, he was reclassified as assistant director of WIU Physical Plant.

According to his nominator, Brewer is responsible for the completion of the Riverfront Campus project for the Quad Cities campus. He regularly meets with the Quad Cities Leadership Committee, a group of business and professional leaders, to update them about progress of the project.

Brewer also works with the news media and has done numerous interviews about the construction and its benefits for the Quad Cities area. He leads tours of the new building after hours, on weekends and on holidays.

Brewer's nominator said he has been excellent at reporting the progress of the Quad Cities project and he regularly updates photos and text about the building on the University's website.

"He has fostered a great deal of good will by virtue of his accessibility and professionalism," the nominator said. "His attitude is that ‘this is the community's facility and they have a right to know.'"

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) Public Relations Representative Wendi Mattson at WK-Mattson@wiu.edu.
