21st Annual Soul Food Festival February 24

MACOMB, IL - - A taste of New Orleans will come to Macomb this weekend with the 21st Annual Soul Food Festival, a highlight of Western Illinois University's Black History Month Celebration. The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 24 in the University Union Lamoine Room.
The festival begins with a social and cash bar at 5:30 p.m., featuring a jazz combo and cash bar. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes foods representing a blend of American, Creole, Cajun, Native American and African cultures: beignets, fruit slush punch, seafood gumbo, chicken smothered in roasted garlic with sweet basil red gravy, Creole jambalaya, mixed green salad with Italian vinaigrette, buttermilk corn muffins, Southern pecan pie, Ruby's bread pudding with rum sauce, coffee, tea and water.
Tickets, $15 for students and $25 for non-students, must be purchased in advance at the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. through Wednesday, Feb. 21. For more information, call the GBCC at 309/298-2220.
