WIU SAG Holds Annual Transfer of Power Ceremony
April 21, 2025

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Student Government Association (SGA) will hold its annual Transfer of Power ceremony during the last SGA meeting of the semester at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the University Union, Capitol Room.
The event will mark the official transition of leadership as current SGA President Makena Martin and Student Member to the Board of Trustees Cody Cornell pass the torch to incoming President Jace Green and Student Representative to the Board of Trustees James Bierman. The ceremony celebrates student leadership and the continued commitment to representing the voice of the student body.
Green, a senior majoring in Agricultural Business, was elected president after a journey shaped by involvement and a passion for leadership. He previously competed on the WIU track and field team, currently serves as the noble ruler of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and serves as chancellor of the AgVocator team. Green has been involved in the SGA since the beginning of 2025, reaffirming his commitment to advocating for students and collaborating with faculty and administration.
A committed exponent of amplifying student voices, Green strives to make WIU a place where every student feel seen, heard and supported. He is determined to make the college experience as enriching and fulfilling as possible for all students.
"If I can offer one piece of advice, it's to get involved. Your voice matters, and there's no better way to amplify it than by participating in campus life. Attend the Student Org Fair, join a club that aligns with your interests or create something entirely new. WIU offers endless opportunities to connect with people who will inspire and challenge you," Green said. "As your SGA President, I'm here to ensure that you're not walking this path alone. Let's make this year one of campus unity and Leatherneck pride. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected campus community."
Bierman, elected as student trustee, is a junior majoring in Agricultural Business. He holds leadership positions in several campus organizations, including serving as the vice president of Management and House Operations for Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and president of the Ag Mech Club for two years. During his sophomore year, he was honored with the Cliff Becker Award, an accolade voted on by the faculty of the Agricultural Department. This prestigious award recognizes a student who demonstrates exceptional involvement within the department, embodying the grit, energy and resilience that Cliff Becker exemplified during his time as a student.
A dedicated advocate for WIU and its students, Bierman is committed to ensuring that all the voices of his peers are heard. He is focused on supporting the continued success and growth of the university.
"Leathernecks are strong and will remain strong. I hope to keep the tradition of toughness alive for many future generations to experience this institution as I have," Bierman said.
Green and Bierman will serve for the 2025-2026 school year. All WIU students are welcome to participate in the Transfer of Power ceremony.
