WIU School of Music Presents Spring Choral Masterworks Concert

MACOMB, IL - - MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present a
Spring Choral Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 11 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

The program will feature two works written by contemporary American
composers, depicting the journey of darkness to light through compassion and
peace.

The WIU Concert Choir, conducted by Jason Hawkins, with collaborative pianist
Po-Chuan Chiang and faculty tenor soloist Terry Chasteen will perform
"llluminare," Elaine Hagenberg's first extended work; this edition for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass (SATB) chorus and piano.

The WIU Singers, conducted by Brian J. Winnie, with collaborative pianist Po-Chuan Chiang, faculty baritone soloist Nicholas Miguel and student musicians George Parvu, violin and Kieran McLain, cello, will perform GRAMMY-nominated composer Alex Berko's "Sacred Place," a piece commissioned by Craig Hella Johnson, artistic director of the award-winning professional choir, Conspirare.

The performance is open free to the public and will be livestreamed on the WIU School of Music's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
