MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present the 2025 WIU Piano Festival Guest Recital, featuring pianist Samuel Gingher at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 7 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. The WIU piano students will also play for Gingher during a Masterclass before the recital from 3-5 p.m.

Gingher is currently the assistant professor of Piano Pedagogy and Class Piano at East Carolina University. His research interests include classical piano improvisation pedagogy and the discovery and performance of rare masterworks.

Gingher has been the winner of several competitions and a recipient of many awards. He has performed and taught in piano and chamber music festivals and has played in a variety of new music, chamber and jazz groups. He was the keyboardist in Urbana-Champaign's local jazz group, Almost "A" Quintet, for many years and is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and has served as a clinician and adjudicator for MTNA conferences in North Carolina, Illinois, Arizona and New Mexico.

The recital program will include:

Prelude and Fugue in E Major, Op. 400, No. 2 - Carl Czerny (1791-1857)
Nocturne Sentimental

Piano Sonata No. 1 in A-Flat Major, Op. 7
II. Prestissimo agitato
