WIU Announces 2025-26 International Presidential Scholarships Recipients

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University recently hosted a special recognition event for its 2025-26 International Presidential Scholarship recipients on March 25. WIU President Kristi Mindrup met with the scholars to acknowledge their achievements and learn more about their experiences at the university. The gathering also served as a photo opportunity to commemorate the occasion.

"Western Illinois University is a better place because of our talented international students," WIU President Kristi Mindrup said. "The students honored with the Presidential Scholarship are gifted academically and also great ambassadors for our university."

The International Presidential Scholarship recipients honored at the event included:


  • Sophia, Brazil (Arrived Fall 2024 – Graduating May 2027)

  • Tahmina, Bangladesh (Arrived Fall 2024 – Graduating May 2028)

  • Samaria, Barbados (Arrived January 2025 – Graduating December 2025)

  • La Ditra, Grenada (Arrived Fall 2023 – Graduated May 2024)

  • Bjarne, St. Lucia (Arrived January 2025 – Graduating May 2027)


Several recipients shared their reflections on their time at WIU and the impact of the scholarship on their academic journey:

"My time at Western Illinois has been truly fulfilling. The welcoming community, the dedicated professors and engaging campus activities have made it easy for me to get involved in school life and stay motivated. I have had the opportunity to meet so many new people from various backgrounds and grow both academically and personally. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue my studies here and be part of such a supportive environment," Fanis said.

"This scholarship has opened doors for me that I never imagined possible. WIU has given me the chance to follow my dreams and I'm excited to make the most of this journey," Akter said.

The International Presidential Scholarship recognizes outstanding international students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and leadership potential. WIU remains committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds in their educational pursuits.
