MACOMB, IL - - For current student Elizabeth Fowler, Western Illinois University is the place where she feels welcomed and accepted.
"When I think about WIU, I think about my friends, my classes, my professors and how kind, loving and welcoming the WIU community is!" Fowler said.
For Fowler, being a Leatherneck means seizing the opportunity to contribute to the WIU community and working hard to improve.
"Being a Leatherneck means having pride in your school and striving to be the best student you can be!" Fowler said.
Among her many wonderful Leatherneck memories, Fowler's favorite is enjoying the campus facilities with her friends.
"I have so many memories at WIU and I would say my favorite is just spending time with friends all around campus like the rec center or the neck or the union and so on!" Fowler said.
On campus, Fowler is a Marching Leathernecks, the Pep Band member and is part of Cru, a Christian campus ministry.
For prospective students, Fowler's advice is not to be afraid to discover the support and guidance that characterize WIU.
"Just do it! You don't need to be scared or anything," Fowler said. "Everyone is so welcoming and it's easy to make friends!! Don't be stressed about school because your professors will definitely help you!"
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
