MACOMB, IL – – Western Illinois University employee Jay Pittman, assistant agricultural research technician, has been named the March 2025 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Pittman has been an indispensable part of WIU, demonstrating dedication and commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities and taking initiative when confronting difficult circumstances. This employee's work ethic has been an essential contributor to the management and success of the university's farm.

The university farm demands daily attention throughout the year. As a farm staff member, Pittman goes above and beyond by providing extra help, understanding the importance of monitoring the farm each day and investing additional time in tasks to reduce feeding costs.

Despite the days of University closures and difficult winter months, Pittman has professionally helped keep the university farm operational, knowing that the livestock on the farm are critical to ensuring a positive educational experience for students.

The nominator shares that, with staff shortages, maintaining the farm has been an exhausting and challenging task, but with Pittman's assistance, it has been achievable.

Pittman's diligence and commitment to offering students an invaluable experience through the university farm make him an essential member of the WIU community.

As the Civil Service Employee of the Month, Pittman will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition in WIU communications. He will also be eligible for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December.

The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by the Goldfarbs. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual Employee of the Year Award.
