125 Anniversary Celebration: Cassandra Froelich
January 31, 2025

Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about Western Illinois University students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Current communication student Cassandra Froelich reflected on how Western Illinois University has shaped her life and has discovered what being a Leatherneck is all about.
"A Leatherneck is a group of people after a singular interest who live life together and experience the world in new, wonderful ways, walking alongside each other from different majors and paths of life to become one cohesive body," Froelich said.
Froelich's favorite Leatherneck memory is rooted in her family's WIU legacy. She fondly recalls visiting campus as a little girl with her parents, who are WIU alumni and the feeling of familiarity and belonging she experienced when walking the campus as a student during her first semester.
A third-generation student, Froelich follows in the footsteps of her parents and grandparents, who attended WIU to pursue careers in teaching. She has embraced campus life through her involvement in Campus Students for Christ, the Wesley Foundation, the Gaming Club and the Communication Student Society.
Her advice to prospective students is simple and heartfelt.
"Go for it," Froelich said. "Western has amazing programs for almost all your heart desires. It's a good school, good community and good people."
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite WIU students, alumni and community members to share their stories and be featured in this series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
