MACOMB, IL - - After starting his career at Western Illinois University as a professor in 1996, Rafael Obregón has seen a lot during his time on campus.
"WIU gave me the opportunity to prove myself as an instructor," Obregón said. "I have been in academia for 30 years now. Being a part of the success of our students is my favorite part."
Obregón now serves as the Director of the School of Engineering and Technology, and through his journey in academia, said the perseverance of students and faculty stands out to him.
"There are challenges and success," Obregón said. "Being a Leatherneck is about resilience and never giving up."
Obregón said students looking at college should pick a place where they have faith in their professors, and WIU has many great people to ensure a great education.
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite WIU students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series by filling out this form, or contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
