James Named December EOM

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University employee Ashley James, administrative assistant to the School of Engineering and Technology director, has been named the December 2024 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

James has been a vital member of WIU, exemplifying dedication, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to supporting students, faculty and staff.
Her nominator highlighted James' outstanding contributions to the School of Engineering and Technology, including her exceptional ability to assist and accommodate all who contact the department. Known for her cheerful demeanor and steadfast work ethic, James has consistently gone above and beyond her job responsibilities.

For nearly two years, she has accompanied the director on trips to the WIU-Quad Cities campus, even after compensation for travel was restricted due to budgetary constraints. Additionally, James played an instrumental role in coordinating property relocation from the Rock Island Arsenal to WIU, demonstrating her organizational skills and dedication to ensuring the process went smoothly.

James manages an extensive array of tasks, including scheduling activities and meetings with prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, administrators and industry partners. Her excellent people skills, adherence to professional protocols and pride in WIU have helped create a positive and efficient environment for the School of Engineering and Technology.

Beyond her administrative duties, James actively supports students by keeping social media and Handshake platforms up to date, notifying students about internships and job opportunities and supervising the School's student workers. She also assists other units within the College and contributes to campus events, embodying the spirit of collaboration and commitment to student success.

Her nominator praised her as "the binding force that keeps School operations functioning smoothly," noting her ability to promptly address issues and ensure continued progress. James is also commended for her dedication to WIU's mission of academic excellence, personal growth and educational opportunities.
As the December 2024 Civil Service Employee of the Month, James will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition in WIU communications. She will also be eligible for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December 2024.

The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by the Goldfarbs. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual Employee of the Year Award.
