WIU Director, Student and Alumni Honored with Prestigious Awards at Annual ILGISA Conference

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University is proud to announce that three members of the WIU community were recognized at the annual Illinois Geographic Information Systems Association (ILGISA) conference. WIU student Kale Campagna, alumni Cindy Barbera-Brelle and Director Chad Sperry were each honored for their outstanding contributions and achievements in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Kale Campagna, an undergraduate student at WIU, received an ILGISA Outstanding Student Award. This prestigious award is presented to a student who demonstrates exceptional understanding and proficiency in GIS and a commitment to the GIS community and academic excellence. Campagna's dedication and skill in GIS studies highlight the high caliber of talent within WIU's academic programs and the positive impact its students continue to have in the field.

Cindy Barbera-Brelle, the Illinois State Police's statewide 9-1-1 administrator, was honored with the ILGISA Dahlberg Distinguished Achievement Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations that have provided exemplary professional service to the GIS community. Barbera-Brelle's dedication and contributions reflect her longstanding commitment to advancing GIS technology and supporting the community of professionals who utilize it.

Chad Sperry, the director of the WIU GIS Center, was honored with the Hilton Distinguished Collaboration Award, which is presented to an individual who has provided extraordinary service to the GIS community in the advancement of coordination between GIS professionals. Sperry's contributions to ILGISA leadership, advancing GIS collaboration and promoting coordination amongst state and local agencies were reasons cited for his receipt of the award.
