MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University employee Karin Chouinard, webmaster for University Technology and Web Services on the Quad Cities Campus, has been named the October 2024 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Chouinard has been a vital member of the WIU community for over 15 years, playing a key role in promoting campus programs and overseeing the design, updates and implementation of the Quad Cities website. She has worked closely with the Marketing department to maintain a cohesive online presence for the campus.

Her nominator praised her recent efforts in revamping the Quad Cities website to be more user-friendly, including merging information across departments and developing a new look and strategy to enhance recruitment for 2025.

"Karin has shown resilience in the face of challenges and a commitment to personal growth," her nominator said. "Her dedication to the students, her team and the University makes her an ideal candidate for this award."

Chouinard's work on the website redesign will continue through the next year as she collaborates with Administration, Marketing and her team to ensure the project's success. Her efforts reflect the University's core values and have made a positive impact on everyone who works with her.

"I am humbled to be nominated for this award. I want to also recognize Jeremy Merritt and his team at Web Services for supporting me over the years and making me feel like part of the team," Chouinard said.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month and a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff, administrators, and community members wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
